Introducing our 9th and 10th ambassadors, Bostjan and Borut

Today, we are delighted to introduce two ambassadors, Bostjan Spetic and Borut Kumperscak.

Bostjan is a curator and Borut a technology specialist at Slovenian computer museum, where they increasingly house more and more software including online website reconstructions.

In his everyday work in the computer history museum, Bostjan has noticed that software is an extremely fragile and ephemeral product and that it can easily disappear. In his statement, he says: “I am super glad that Software Heritage, which archives software on a planetary scale, exists, and the researchers of future generations will have the primary sources to understand our everyday life and reality”. 

In Bostjan’s own words, he sees “lots of potential in the ambassador approach, because there are many local vendors, and governments that we can talk to about ongoing contributions to the archive”. 

Borut believes that “The technology is approaching a turning point where everyone will be able to write software with the help of AI, not just software experts. On one hand, this could change the very fundamentals of how software works, and on the other hand, it will be very dependent on available sources for AI to learn from. Accordingly, we should preserve as much of current “hand-written” code as at all possible, both for historical reasons and for future references, and I’m extremely satisfied that the Software Heritage archive will fulfill this need”.
