Meet our 3rd ambassador in 2024, Giacomo Lorenzetti!
We are delighted to introduce our 3rd ambassador in 2024, Giacomo Lorenzetti!
Giacomo Lorenzetti works as a Research Software Engineer at Centro de Estudios de Física del Cosmos de Aragón (CEFCA). After an education in physics, he joined libre software communities, being an Open Source Developer at Stockfish, an open-source chess engine, and taking care of Community Operations at lichess.org, a free chess server.
Giacomo is eager to highlight the importance of libre software in general and of longevity of source codes in the scientific world in particular. Too many horror stories remind how fragile source code is without a deliberate action plan. Thus, as a Research Software Engineer, he collaborates with Mohammad Akhlaghi, who is a Data Pipeline Scientist and the founder of Maneage and of the GNU Astronomy Utilities (Mohammad is also a Software Heritage ambassador!). Giacomo develops workflows on Maneage by using the Software Heritage products and the SoftWare Hash IDentifiers (SWHIDs), pursuing the goal of making research results more reproducible. And recently, Giacomo transferred his copyright to the Free Software Foundation for the Gnuastro project, to contribute defending the GPL and maintaining software freedom.
As a Software Heritage ambassador, Giacomo is looking forward to meeting other libre software enthusiasts from all over the world and to spread the software preservation word!
If you want to contact him or learn more about our mission, he will be happy to answer you!
And remember: we are looking for enthusiastic organizations and individuals to volunteer as ambassadors to help grow the Software Heritage community. If you too want to become an ambassador, please tell us a bit about yourself and your interest in the mission of Software Heritage.
